President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a series of key development projects for B. Dhonfan will commence this year, aimed at resolving longstanding infrastructure, land, and community service challenges.
Speaking at a community meeting in Dhonfan as part of his tour of Baa Atoll, the President said the government’s planned initiatives include land reclamation, addressing the port’s drainage issues, expanding school facilities, and improving recreational amenities. Road development works will begin once the island’s sewerage system is completed.
He confirmed that sports development is a priority, noting that the existing football ground project will be completed to full standards, including fencing and floodlighting. Plans for a futsal and handball court will be awarded this year, while a volleyball court is slated for next year’s budget. In addition, a fitness and recreation centre, along with an outdoor gym, will be established this year.
The President also pledged improvements to the Dhonfan Health Centre and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving staffing shortages affecting water and sanitation services.
