President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Innafushi, located near B. Fulhadhoo, will be handed over to the Fulhadhoo Island Council under a structured management plan to ensure the island’s proper maintenance and economic benefit to the community.

Speaking at a meeting in Fulhadhoo during his visit to Baa Atoll this evening, the President highlighted the tourism sector’s pivotal role in the island’s development. He noted that Innafushi is currently poorly maintained, and residents have long called for measures to improve its condition and harness its potential to generate revenue.

According to the President, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment have collaborated with the council to develop a comprehensive management plan. The plan outlines maintenance responsibilities, revenue generation strategies, and financial arrangements, including the percentage of earnings to be deposited into state revenue.

The President also announced that work to upgrade the Fulhadhoo Health Centre and establish sports facilities will commence this year. In addition, the construction of an accommodation block for incoming workers will be included in next year’s budget, with work scheduled to start in 2026.
