The Speaker of the People's Majlis has proposed to extend the current session of the parliament.

At the beginning of today's sitting, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed to extend the current session until the 21st of this month.

According to the parliament's rules, this session was scheduled to end on the 15th of this month. The Speaker explained that the decision to extend the session was made due to the significant amount of important unfinished work.

The Speaker also mentioned that voting on the extension of the session will take place during the voting hour of today's sitting.

According to the parliament's rules, the parliamentary year is divided into three sessions:

  • First Session - From February 1 to May 15
  • Second Session - From June 1 to August 15
  • Third Session - From October 1 to the end of November

The first sitting of each session is held on the first Monday or Thursday following the start date of that session. The last sitting of the session is held on the last Thursday or Monday within that session period.
