An agreement has been signed for the harbour development and land reclamation project in Kendhoo, as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Baa Atoll.
Two development agreements were finalised during the President’s visit, covering both land reclamation and port development works in Kendhoo. The projects were awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), with Managing Director Ahmed Southee signing on behalf of MTCC, and Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib signing on behalf of the government.
The Kendhoo port development and land reclamation project, valued at MVR 119,361,062.16, is scheduled for completion within 450 days.
Key works under the project include:
- Dredging 29,854 cubic metres of sand
- Reclaiming 112,016 square metres of land
- Constructing a 278-metre breakwater
- Installing 10 mooring buoys
- Building ramps measuring 11×11 metres and 9×10 metres
- Constructing a 1.575-metre-wide jetty
- Installing 971 metres of revetment
- Building a 62-metre quay wall
- Removing 29 metres of existing quay
- Installing nine harbour lights and two navigation light
- Building a 5-metre-wide pavement around the reclaimed area
