Vice President Faisal Naseem and the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has left to Sri Lanka to show solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka following the terrorist attacks on 21 April 2019.

The departure was announced on the MDP Twitter account. Members of the MDP Parliamentary Group are accompanying the Vice President and the Speaker of the Parliament on this visit.

Over 250 people, including 11 Indian nationals, were killed in a series of suicide bombings in Sri Lanka. Former President Nasheed has sternly condemned the attack in April.

The MDP statement on the day of the attack said that MDP would provide all possible help for Sri Lanka to recover from the attack. The statement said that the low, uncivilized attack cannot be accepted no who or why carried it out.
