The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has proposed the appointment of four new members to its board of directors, as the term of four current members will expire on August 31.

MIRA’s board consists of seven members, including the Commissioner General and Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, with each member serving a five-year term. The current board includes Chairperson Ahmed Saeed Musthafa, Deputy Chairperson Leena Mohammad Zahir Hussain, and Commissioner General Hassan Zareer, among others.

Fourteen names have been forwarded for consideration, with the president expressing preference for candidates including Mohamed Imtinan Saudullah, Ismail Hamdoon, Aishath Shazra, and Iduham Hussain. The top nominee, Imthinan, is the son of Thinadhoo North MP Saudullah Hilmi, who also serves as the deputy chair of Parliament's Economic Committee.

The nominees are being interviewed by the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs, which typically follows the president’s order of preference in such appointments.
