Three people were rescued early Sunday morning after a cargo boat, Al Majra, capsized near Meemu Dhiggiri. The boat was travelling from Malé to Th.Veymandoo when it reportedly hit a reef and sank due to heavy cargo.

Police received the alert at 05:34hrs and officers from Vaavu Atoll quickly responded. They found the three passengers, a Maldivian and two Bangladeshi nationals, stranded on the reef. All were rescued safely and taken to Felidhoo in good condition.

The boat was carrying PVC foam boards and other construction materials, which have since sunk. Police warned that some items are being carried away by waves and advised vessels in the area to stay cautious.

The incident happened during bad weather, with the Maldives Meteorological Service forecasting more rain, strong winds, and rough seas due to the southwest monsoon, especially across northern and central atolls.
