udicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to recommend former Supreme Court judge Abdul Ghani Mohamed as the new Chief Justice.

The position became vacant following the retirement of Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan on 21 July.

Following the vacancy, JSC opened applications for the role on the same day. Three individuals expressed interest: former High Court Chief Justice Shujau Usman, Family Court Judge and former Criminal Court Chief Justice Abdulla Mohamed, and Abdul Ghani Mohamed, who currently serves as the President of the Tax Appellate Tribunal.

All three candidates were interviewed by the JSC, and Abdul Ghani Mohamed scored the highest marks in the evaluation. He is now the recommended candidate to assume the top judicial post in the country.
