Police have arrested a man for threatening to kill President Dr Mohamed Muizzu through a post made on Facebook.
The threat was posted by an individual using the name Masih Moosa while sharing a news article about the president's call to discuss capital punishment for drug traffickers and sellers.
In a statement to the media, police confirmed they were investigating the threat made on social media. Later that evening, 25-year-old Masih Moosa from Malas, Thimarafushi, was arrested under a court order, and his mobile phone was confiscated as part of the investigation.
Police had also investigated a similar case involving threats against the president on social media in September last year, though no further details were provided.
