Three senior judges have applied for the post of Chief Justice following the retirement of Ahmed Muthasim Adnan on July 21.
The candidates are former High Court Chief Justice Shujau Usman, Tax Appellate Tribunal President and former Supreme Court Judge Abdul Ghani Mohamed, and Family Court Judge and former Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) opened applications for the position on the day of Adnan’s retirement. All three candidates reportedly submitted their applications just before the deadline.
The next Chief Justice will be appointed after the President submits a nominee to Parliament based on the JSC’s recommendation, and Parliament gives its approval.
