Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) Managing Director Hamdan Shakeel has said the current government is completing the processes left out during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term.

Shakeel said the construction of the 'Udhares' and 'Dhoadhi' towers under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme is complete. However, several key components were left out by the previous government just before signing the main construction agreement. These include building signage, CCTV, garbage chutes, boom gates, landscaping, water and sewage connections, internet systems, and electricity works. Work on these items has now begun and is moving quickly.

The Gedhoruveriya scheme, launched on 26 June 2022, was designed to provide housing in Malé. A final list of recipients was released on 15 November 2023, but the flats were not handed over due to a complaint made to the Anti-Corruption Commission about how the list was prepared. The current government reviewed the issue and decided to go ahead with the same list.

The project includes 32 towers with 4,000 flats, funded by a $227 million loan from Exim Bank of India. Half the towers were built by JMC and the other half by NBCC, both Indian companies. FDC has now started signing agreements with those selected to receive flats.
