President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that the Maldives can only continue to exist as a sovereign nation if its citizens work together towards a common goal. Speaking at the ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence, the President underscored that protecting the country's independence is a personal responsibility for every Maldivian.
He highlighted that the freedom enjoyed by the present generation is the result of the dedication and sense of responsibility shown by previous generations. According to the President, this legacy must now be passed on to future generations with honesty and integrity, as national independence cannot be preserved without a collective commitment.
The President stressed that national unity is only possible when citizens are united by a common purpose. A nation, he noted, cannot endure if people are divided in their thinking and direction.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s core policy to lead national development efforts with Maldivians at the forefront, even when support from foreign partners is sought. This, he said, has been the guiding principle of his presidency from the outset.
