Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on an official visit to the Maldives, met with former President Mohamed Nasheed on Saturday at Kurumba Maldives Resort, where he is staying.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Nasheed’s longstanding support for the India–Maldives partnership, describing him as a consistent advocate for strengthening bilateral ties. The Prime Minister also reiterated India’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, underlining the Maldives’ strategic importance within the broader vision of regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean.

Modi further assured continued Indian support to the Maldives through capacity-building initiatives and development cooperation.

Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Modi met with Speaker of Parliament Abdulraheem Abdulla as part of his engagements during the Independence Day visit.
