President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the Maldives' security forces, acknowledging their central role in preserving national independence and ensuring public safety.

The President made the remarks during a special Independence Day event held to engage with personnel from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service. He noted that the country has a long-standing history of independence, made possible through the enduring contributions of its security services over the years.

He highlighted that members of the armed forces and police are consistently the first to respond in times of crisis, including natural disasters, power outages, and other emergencies, and described their service as invaluable to the nation.

The President stated that the government sees it as a priority to invest in the welfare and development of both institutions. Since taking office, he has viewed supporting the armed forces and police as a core responsibility of his administration.

He also noted that continued focus would be placed on enhancing training programmes and expanding opportunities for security personnel, with the belief that strengthening these institutions ultimately serves the interests of the entire nation.
