Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Maldives today for a state visit to mark the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence and 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He was welcomed at Velana International Airport by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. An official reception will be held this evening at Republic Square.

The visit will take place from 25 to 26 May. During this time, the two leaders will hold high-level talks on bilateral and regional issues.

Several India-funded projects will be inaugurated during the visit, along with the signing of new agreements to strengthen cooperation.

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to the Maldives since President Dr Muizzu took office.
