Traffic restrictions have been announced in the Greater Malé Region from 25 to 27 July 2025 as part of preparations for the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated that on 25 July, heavy vehicles in categories C0, C2, D, E, and V will be restricted from operating between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. On 26 July, all vehicles will be banned from the roads between 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., coinciding with the main Independence Day events. On 27 July, the same categories of heavy vehicles will be restricted again from 6:00 p.m. until midnight.
During these periods, only authorised vehicles, such as those operated by security forces, ambulances, and public transport buses, will be permitted on the roads. The Ministry has warned that enforcement action may be taken against any unauthorised vehicles found operating during the restricted hours.
