Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that it will hold the 'Ran Reendhoo Dhuvun' on 1 August to commemorate the party's 20th anniversary.
Initially planned for July 25 on Malé City’s Majeedhee Magu, the event was postponed following complications in obtaining permission to use the area around Hulhumalé Central Park. Former party chairperson Hassan Latheef stated that two requests for permission had been submitted to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on 22 June and 6 July, but both were denied.
According to Latheef, HDC instead suggested that the run be held in the tree area of Hulhumalé Phase II, a proposal the party did not accept.
Despite these setbacks, the MDP has now confirmed that the run will be held around Hulhumalé Central Park with the cooperation of the Maldives Police Service. The formal request for the event is scheduled to be submitted tomorrow.
The run is expected to feature themes highlighting MDP’s contributions, achievements, and development initiatives over the past two decades. Further details of the event will be released in the coming days.
