President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that N. Lhohi surfing area will be developed to international standards, with work scheduled to commence laters this year.
This project is expected to transform Lhohi into a surfing venue capable of hosting international-level tournaments, fulfilling a key presidential pledge.
In addition to the tunnel project, several other major developments have been announced for Lhohi. A new school building is set to be included in next year’s state budget, with construction expected to begin in January. The facility is intended to house comprehensive services and amenities required for modern education.
The President also revealed that enhancements to the local health centre will begin in November. This includes the establishment of a laboratory and the provision for additional medical staff, which will be included in the upcoming budget.
Furthermore, a new ring road is planned to complement the ongoing port development project. The road project is expected to be contracted soon, with the aim of completing it alongside the harbour works, thereby improving connectivity across the island.
