Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that he will visit the Maldives on 25 July at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives.
In a post on X, Modi said it was an honour to be part of the independence celebrations, expressing confidence that his discussions with President Dr Muizzu would further strengthen bilateral ties.
According to the President’s Office, Modi will be in the Maldives from 25–26 July. During the visit, he and President Dr Muizzu will hold high-level talks on bilateral and regional issues. The visit will also include the inauguration of several Indian-funded projects and the signing of new Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
The President’s Office described the visit as especially significant due to the dual anniversaries being marked this year. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to the Maldives since President Dr Muizzu assumed office.
