Maldives Correctional Service has terminated Mohamed Asif from his position as Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP) following an internal investigation.

According to Corrections spokesperson Aminath Yusreen Ahmed, Asif was dismissed after an inquiry, though no further details were provided. He had been suspended since November last year and continued to receive his salary during the eight-month suspension period.

Asif’s suspension followed allegations of financial irregularities involving over MVR 200,000, which was reportedly transferred from the Prisons Club account to multiple other accounts. Asif, who served as president of the club, was believed to be central to the alleged scam.

Promoted to ACP in 2019 during his tenure as superintendent, Asif’s dismissal marks the conclusion of the internal investigation into the matter.
