President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the government’s ambition to ensure that creative industries contribute at least 15 percent of the Maldives’ GDP by 2030.
Speaking at the Maldives–UK Business Forum in London, President Muizzu highlighted the creative sector—including digital content, design, media, gaming, cultural enterprises and the arts—as a key driver of future economic growth. He noted that the Maldives’ young, tech-savvy population and expanding digital infrastructure provide a strong foundation for nurturing local talent and global participation.
The President invited UK creative institutions, digital start-ups, design firms and media businesses to collaborate with Maldivian counterparts through joint projects, investment in platforms, and youth training programmes.
President Dr Muizzu also underlined the government’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives, aimed at creating a “smart state” to improve governance and foster new business opportunities. He encouraged UK technology companies, software developers, e-governance specialists and cybersecurity firms to take part in building the Maldives’ digital future.
