Member of Parliament for Baarah Constituency, Ibrahim Shujau, has stated that there is no Madam running the Progressive National Congress (PNC) now, and that they will begin work by satisfying members and governing the party.

At a meeting held last night by the PNC, which runs the government, Shujau indirectly criticized "Madam", referring to Fathimath Ibrahim, the wife of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Shujau said that PNC leaders visit the atolls to satisfy party members and gather information. He added that if a party member doesn't get a job, the party will "govern" in a way that ensures they get a job within the existing system.

"We are here to govern PNC. Maldives has a party system now. We dissolved one of our parties and changed to another party as planned before. We are starting to govern the party for you, after properly greasing all internal organs of the party and tightening the screws," he said.

Shujau stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu knows how to govern the party, and that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), which was in power then, faced defeat in the 2018 presidential election because they couldn't govern the party at that time.

"Then we started going to islands and asking why we lost power, and they say it's because of Madam. Now, God willing, there won't be any Madam running this party," he said.

Shujau further stated that PNC will now be run by the party's president and leadership, and members will see how the party is governed.
