Idrees Fauzy has been approved to be appointed as the public member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

64 members present at the session voted in favor of approving Idrees Fauzy. Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, the MDP member for Hanimaadhoo constituency, voted against the approval, while Mauroof Zakir, the MDP member for Kendhoo constituency, and Mohamed Niushad, the MDP member for Keyodhoo constituency, abstained from voting.

Eight candidates had applied when applications were opened for the public member position of the JSC.

Out of these 8 candidates, 4 scored above 75% in the interviews conducted by the Judiciary Committee after reviewing their names. They are:

  • Idrees Fauzy, Fahivaage, L. Kalaidhoo -- 81% marks
  • Ibrahim Zahid, Lilimaage, GDh. Vaadhoo -- 80% marks
  • Dr. Hussein Fayaz, Daftharu 1325 -- 79% marks
  • Ahmed Ali, Hulhumale Flat 108 -- 75% marks

The current public member of the JSC is Aminath Ummukulsoom. The opportunity to apply for this position was opened because her term is set to expire in August this year.
