Two men have been arrested for carrying swords and knives on a street in Male'.

The arrested individuals are a 33-year-old man from GDh. Hoadedhdhoo and a 21-year-old man from Addu City Meedhoo.

They were arrested for possessing sharp weapons in a public place.

According to their detention order at the Criminal Court, a sword, a knife, and a surgical-type knife were found in their possession. The court order also states that they dropped the knives to the ground when they saw the police.

At the court, the 21-year-old man claimed that he was not involved in the incident and was only there to provide light while the surgical knife was being cut.

The Criminal Court has ordered both men to be detained for 15 days.

Both individuals have previous criminal records.
