Innahura Maldives Resort has become the first company in the country to be certified under the newly launched Maldives Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programme, an initiative by Maldives Customs Service aimed at easing trade procedures for compliant businesses.

The AEO programme offers a range of special benefits to businesses that demonstrate consistent adherence to customs laws and related regulations. It is designed to facilitate smoother import and export processes, promote legal compliance, and encourage efficiency across the supply chain.

The official certification was handed over at a special ceremony held today at the Maldives Customs Building. Minister of State for Economic Affairs Abdulla Shiyaz awarded the certificate to Innahura Maldives, received on behalf of the company by Hussain Hameed, Manager of its Malé Office.

Minister Shiyaz described the AEO programme as a key milestone in enhancing trade facilitation in the Maldives and commended Customs for fostering a more business-friendly environment.

Commissioner General of Customs, Fathimath Dhiyana, noted that the AEO framework is currently active in 89 countries worldwide and operates in three tiers, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, each offering progressively greater privileges based on compliance and tenure in the programme. Certified companies benefit from advantages such as automated declaration assessments, expedited goods clearance, and priority access to services like advance rulings and documentation.

Hussain Hameed highlighted Innahura Maldives’ commitment to integrity and compliance, stating that being the first certified operator is both an achievement and a responsibility. He also indicated that other resorts under the same management are expected to join the programme in the future.

Eligibility for the AEO programme is not limited to large corporations. Businesses that have engaged in uninterrupted import or export activity for at least five years, regardless of size, may apply, provided they meet the compliance standards set by Customs.
