The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has announced that rough seas, strong winds, and possible tidal waves are expected in the next 24 hours across the Maldives.
Meteorologist Hussein Waheed told "One" today that thunderstorms with rain are likely in various parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
Wind speeds are expected to range between 13 to 23 miles per hour in the central and northern atolls, while the southern atolls may experience winds between 8 to 18 miles per hour.
Hussein added that seas will be rough in the northern and central atolls, and there's a possibility of swell waves affecting different parts of the country over the next two days.
He also mentioned that there's a chance of tidal waves in the northern and central atolls during high tide periods.
"Looking at daytime hours, today's high tide times are 1:46 PM for northern atolls. That's the highest tide. For central atolls, it's between 2:30 PM and 2:26 PM, and for southern atolls, it's 3:03 PM. There's a possibility of tidal waves around noon," Hussein said.
Hussein further stated that seas will be very rough in the central and northern atolls, with wave heights potentially reaching seven feet. In the southern atolls, wave heights are expected to be between three to five feet.
