Civil Court has ordered Deputy Managing Director of Road Development Corporation (RDC), Mohammad Nabih Afif, to pay MVR 895,000 in a rent dispute case.
The case was filed by D Blue Private Limited, which had leased a café space on the third floor of the West End Lounge building in Maafannu to Nabih and another individual. However, the tenants failed to make rent payments as agreed.
D Blue Pvt Ltd sought MVR 880,000 in unpaid rent and MVR 15,000 in legal costs. Although Nabih and the co-accused indicated their intention to defend the case, they failed to submit a defence.
Under the Civil Procedure Code, if no defence is filed, the plaintiff can request the court to proceed with the case in the presence of the accused. Accordingly, D Blue made such a request.
The court found that the submitted documents clearly proved Nabih and the other party owed the total amount claimed. The judgment requires both individuals to pay the full sum—MVR 880,000 in rent and MVR 15,000 in trial expenses—within 14 days through the Civil Court.
