Two women have been critically injured in a road accident that occurred in L. Gan on Sunday, according to Gan Regional Hospital.

Police reported that the incident took place at approximately 0912 hrs, when a motorcycle travelling from L. Fonadhoo to Gan collided head-on with a street post at the bend enroute from Maamendhoo to Gan.

The two women were on the motorcycle at the time of the collision. They were immediately rushed to L. Gan Regional Hospital for emergency treatment.

Abdul Hanan Abdul Rahim, CEO of the hospital, confirmed that both women sustained serious injuries and are in critical condition. He noted that one of the patients was already undergoing surgery, while the other is receiving urgent medical care. Further details on the extent of their injuries are yet to be confirmed.

The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the accident.
