A young man has been arrested in Male' with medicines prohibited from import into the Maldives during a special operation.

The police said yesterday that he was arrested with a large quantity of narcotics on Wednesday during a special operation conducted in Male' by the Drug Enforcement and Intelligence departments as part of their efforts to combat drug selling and use in the Maldives.

The person arrested in the operation is Hussein Shanim (24 years old) from Saathi, Sh. Komandoo.

The police said that after arresting Hussein Shanim, they searched three locations related to him. During these searches, they found 338.51 grams of suspected narcotics and 32 packets of medicines prohibited from import to the Maldives.

When Hussein Shanim was presented to the court for a detention hearing, the court ordered him to be held in police custody for five days, according to the police.

The Drug Enforcement Department of the police is continuing to investigate this case.
