Maldives Immigration officers have started using body-worn cameras.

Immigration said today that as part of their efforts to inspect illegal expatriates, they searched an area in Hulhumale' Phase 1 today and brought three illegal expatriates under Immigration custody.

"In this operation, officers have started using body cameras for the first time," Immigration said.

While the government has taken many measures to solve the issue of illegal expatriates in the Maldives, Immigration has so far deported more than 6,700 illegal expatriates from the Maldives.

The Maldives Police Service also started using body-worn cameras in 2022. Police have been using these cameras in protests and major operations. Additionally, in 2023, Corrections jail officers began using body-worn cameras.
