The Ministry of Construction has announced a call for parties interested in building an airport in AA. Mathiveri.

Interested parties have been invited to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) by the end of June for building an airport in Mathiveri.

The airport will be built in the island's lagoon on a "cross-subsidy" basis.

Building an airport in Mathiveri by reclaiming land is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

During his visit to Mathiveri last year, President Dr. Muizzu said that having an airport in AA. Atoll is economically viable.

Mathiveri is an island about an hour and a half away from Male' by boat. The island also has a thriving local tourism business.
