MTCC, the contractor for the K. Gulhi land reclamation project, has said that 95 percent of the project work has been completed.

The work of land reclamation and shore protection of Gulhi was assigned to MTCC on March 20, 2023. However, the work had not started as the budget and resources needed for the project were not provided. The current government began the practical work of this project on April 7 this year.

MTCC said today that upon completion of this project, a long-lasting solution will be provided to the social and business issues faced by the island's residents.

Under the Gulhi land reclamation and shore protection project, 10.15 hectares of land will be reclaimed from the island, 940 meters of rock revetment will be laid, and 362 meters of geobag revetment will be installed. Additionally, 88 meters of groyne will be installed.

The project is valued at MVR 83 million.
