The People's Majlis has approved the appointment of Aishath Asna Hamdhi of G. Silverge as Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the central bank.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sent her name to the People's Majlis on the 30th of last month, seeking parliamentary approval for her appointment to the position.

After the President's letter requesting this was read at that day's Majlis session, the matter was sent to the Public Finance Committee for further review.

At the Public Finance Committee meeting held on the 7th of this month, the committee approved giving parliamentary consent to Asna. When the committee's report was voted on in today's Majlis session, 73 out of 74 members present unanimously approved her appointment to the position.

Asna currently holds the position of Managing Director of Financial Sector Development at MMA. Previously, she also served as a Senior Manager at MMA.

The Deputy Governor position became vacant after the previous Deputy Governor, Ahmed Imad, resigned on March 17 this year. He resigned after a request was sent to the People's Majlis to dismiss him, citing obstruction of work and lack of cooperation.
