Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has been appointed to temporarily carry out the responsibilities of the Commissioner of Police.

After Ali Shujau resigned from the position of Commissioner of Police today, the running of the police institution was initially temporarily assigned to Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikury.

However, Home Minister Ihsan Ali said in a post on X today that the most prioritized work currently being carried out by the police institution is the investigation of the case of Hawwa Yumnu, 21, who fell onto the roof of H. Mitaz on the morning of the 18th of this month.

And since Naveen is in charge of that investigation, he said Naveen was appointed to temporarily carry out the responsibilities of the Police Commissioner until someone is appointed to the position.

Naveen joined the Maldives Police Service on July 7, 1994. During his 30 years in the police service, he has worked in various departments of the Maldives Police Office.

This includes working as a head of various sections in the operational field, investigative field, and administrative and support field.

He was appointed to the position of Deputy Commissioner in this government on February 16, 2023. Until his appointment to that position, Naveen was in the position of Head of Corporate Services Directorate.
