Judge Mohamed Faisal of the High Court has been appointed as the Chief Judge of the High Court.
The decision to appoint Faisal as the Chief Judge of the High Court was made at a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) held tonight.
Faisal holds a first degree in Sharia and Law from the Maldives College of Islamic Studies. He has been working in the legal field since 2012. As a lawyer, he has worked at SMNS Equity Chamber.
In addition, he served as a member of the JSC from May 22, 2014, and as the Vice President of the Commission from July 13 of the same year.
Faisal was later appointed as a Judge of the High Court on July 24, 2018.
The position of Chief Judge of the High Court became vacant when the previous Chief Judge, Hussain Shaheed, was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court on the 19th of last month. After the position became vacant, Judge Faisal was temporarily in charge of running the High Court.
