Over MVR 60,000 stolen during Eid prayer

Over MVR 60,000 has been stolen from a house in Mahchangolhi when the residents went out for the Eid prayers.

Maldives Police Service said that the thieves went in after breaking the door to the house and the theft was reported at 8:33 a.m. this morning.

Police said that over MVR 60,000 were stolen from the house along with a mobile phone. The theft is being investigated by the police.

At the Police press conference yesterday in regards to security measures for Eid holidays in the Male’ Area, Chief Superintendent, Moosa Ali said that statistics from the past three years show that the most common crime taking place during the Eid holidays is theft and advised the public to take security measures accordingly. And to reduce the crime of theft, he said that the police will be conducting a special operation where patrols would be increased.
