A launch of the MNDF Central Area Command’s Coastguard Squadron has rescued the people on board the vessel “Thurahya” in crisis at sea after their engine failed. The vessel was discovered last night during the search initiated by MNDF after the vessel was reported missing.
The vessel was abandoned this morning around 6:30 a.m. due to severe weather after the three crew members on board were taken on the Coastguard vessel, “Maafaiy”. Efforts by the owner of the vessel to find another vessel to tug to safety were unsuccessful and the vessel was being pull out of the Maldivian territory.
MNDF said that the 33-foot vessel traveling from Male’ City to Addu City was reported missing yesterday around 5:20 p.m.
The vessel was found 10:30 p.m. last night by the fast intercepting vessel about 31 nautical miles east of Laamu Gan. The vessel was drifting in the ocean after engine failure.
All three Maldivians on board were in good condition at the time of the rescue.
