The man arrested for allegedly throwing crude oil on MDP activist Mariyam Zubair (Mandhy) has been released.

Mandhy was hit with crude oil on the night of the 17th of last month while she was returning home after participating in a protest held by MDP in Male'.

In connection with this case, the police arrested Ahmed Rishmah (20 years) of Sunlightvilla, GA. Dhaandhoo. The police are accusing him of assault, property damage, and participation in committing a crime.

When he was brought before the Criminal Court to determine his detention on these charges, he was initially detained for 15 days. When he was brought to the Criminal Court yesterday to extend the detention period after that period expired, the court ordered his release with conditions.

The Criminal Court ordered his release considering that although some evidence has been presented that he committed the alleged crime, he is suspected of a minor criminal offense, he has spent 15 days in detention, and he is fully cooperating with the investigation.

According to the court order, he was released on the condition that he cooperates with the police investigation when given leniency from detention. The court order stated that he could be re-arrested if he violates the condition.

Ahmed Rishmah was also arrested in February this year on suspicion of planning an assault using sharp and dangerous weapons.
