The GDh. Vaadhoo Magistrate Court has sentenced a man who escaped while in police custody to three months and 18 days in jail.

The sentence was passed last Thursday on Ali Shameem (27 years) of Dhiggaagasdhoshuge, GDh. Vaadhoo.

Shameem was arrested on July 23, 2024, on suspicion of producing and selling alcohol at his home. When he was brought before the Vaadhoo Magistrate Court to determine his detention, the court ordered him to be detained in a custodial jail for 15 days starting from that day.

He escaped while under police supervision as he was being taken to Vaadhoo Police Station for detention.

In this case, the Prosecutor General charged him with the offense of escaping while under the supervision of an employee of a center where he was detained in criminal custody.

When Shameem objected to the charge in court, the court found him guilty of escaping while under the supervision of an employee of supervision of an employee of a center where he was detained in criminal custody and sentenced him to three months and 18 days in jail.
