President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that his trip to Liverpool, United Kingdom, cost MVR 153,000.

Speaking on the "Rayyithunaa Eku" podcast program today, the President said that his trip to the UK from the 1st to the 5th of this month to promote Maldives tourism was an important trip.

"To say one thing, this trip was a very important trip to promote tourism. The UK is currently the second largest market for the Maldives. The Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world. We have now come to an agreement with the team that has the biggest chance of becoming the champion of England at this time, which makes sense in every way," he said.

However, the President said that the expenses of all participants in the trip were covered by sponsorship.

"The government didn't spend much, almost all expenses were covered by private sector sponsorship. Only about MVR 150,000 was spent, which was for my ticket. Then all other people's tickets and accommodation, all expenses in total were done through private sector funding under sponsorship," he said.

The President traveled to Liverpool for this trip to participate in the launch of a co-brand campaign being conducted jointly by Liverpool Football Club and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to promote Maldives tourism.

The Maldives was made the "Official Tourist Destination Partner" of Liverpool FC under a campaign that will run for three years and six months to increase the reach of the Maldives tourism brand and encourage more tourists to visit the Maldives.
