It has been decided to summon relevant institutions and organizations to the Public Finance Committee of the People's Majlis to resolve the issue of double pension payments from the state budget.
The proposal to summon these parties to the committee for consultation on making necessary changes to the laws to resolve this issue was made by the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis, Ahmed Nazim, member for Dhuvaafaru constituency.
Speaking at today's meeting of the Public Finance Committee, Nazim said that 10 institutions are providing pension packages outside of the Pension Act.
These include the Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Defense, Maldives Police Service, President's Office, Maldives Customs Service, Department of Judicial Administration, Maldives Correctional Service, People's Majlis Secretariat, National University, and Hulhumale Hospital, Nazim said.
Nazim said that when people leave jobs from these places, they take lump sum benefits and pension packages, and then move to other positions, including political positions, while continuing to receive both salary and basic pension.
To resolve this double pension issue, the committee has decided to meet with the Civil Service Commission and Pension Office officials from next week, followed by meetings with other institutions.
