All power of gas procurement has been taken from Maldives Gas and transferred to STO.
This change has been made after an issue surfaced regarding the loss of advance payment for a gas shipment, and the Parliament began investigating the matter.
The issue was brought to the attention of the Parliament at today's meeting of the Public Finance Committee by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Nazim, member for Dhuvaafaru constituency.
Noting that the committee needs to check if companies are operating in line with PCB policies, Nazim said that Maldives Gas had lost the advance payment made for a gas shipment, and efforts to recover the money have not yet been successful. Nazim also noted that this is the result of not following PCB policies.
Nazim said that MVR 240,000 was paid as an advance for the gas shipment, which was for a cooking gas shipment in October last year.
Nazim said that companies 'bleed' when money is spent in such ways and when companies rent vehicles and other items at extremely high prices, contrary to PCB policies.
Therefore, he said that it is necessary to specifically check whether individual companies are working in accordance with PCB policies.
