Sunday has been declared as Eid-Al-Fitr in the Maldives.
The statement by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs says that the decision to declare tomorrow as Eid al-Fitr was made because official confirmation of the sighting of the new moon for Shawwal has been received from some Islamic countries.
Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem has prayed for the acceptance of the fasts and good deeds performed during this Ramadan and for the forgiveness of sins. He also prayed for the grace to continue performing good deeds even after Ramadan.
This announcement confirms that the Maldives will celebrate Eid al-Fitr tomorrow, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal. The decision appears to have been based on moon sightings reported in other Islamic countries, which is a common practice in determining the Islamic lunar calendar dates.
