At the request of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun work to relocate the Thalassemia Center, Maldivian Blood Service (MBS) to Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumale'.
Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, visited the building today to observe the progress of the work.
With the Thalassemia Center in Male' aging and concerns related to the center, President Muizzu decided to develop Orange Hiyaa and relocate the center there early in his presidency. However, as the work was not progressing adequately, the President has said that he is working to make the center operational within a month.
According to the President, the MNDF was tasked with completing Orange Hiyaa to expedite the work. He also said that MNDF is doing this as a national task.
As MNDF began work on completing Orange Hiyaa today, they have set a target to finish the work before the 25th of next month.
Orange Hiyaa was used as a quarantine facility during the COVID-19 period.
