After eight years, a Director General has been appointed to the Thalassemia Center, Maldivian Blood Services (MBS), and an advertisement has been made to recruit additional nurses.

The Ministry of Health has today appointed Ahmed Mausoom as the Director General of the Thalassemia Center.

Mausoom is a person with experience in management and administration. He has previously worked at IGMH as well.

The Health Ministry said today that a Deputy Director General and a Director will also be appointed to the Thalassemia Center very soon, and a physician will also be appointed shortly.

In addition, an advertisement has been made today to recruit five nurses needed for the Thalassemia Center. The Ministry also said that work is ongoing to appoint other administrative staff as well.

On Saturday night, blood transfusion patients and their guardians protested in front of the Thalassemia Center, dissatisfied with the services provided by the center, calling for the resignation of the center's management.

In response, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Center yesterday and ordered immediate strong measures to be taken.

Making necessary changes to internal management to improve services

Taking immediate action to resolve current filter issues

Arranging doctors to provide services to patients

Working on relocating services to a new building as the current MBS building is old and deteriorated
