K. Maafushi harbour development is progressing steadily, with 55.3 percent of the project now complete, according to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The company confirmed that work on filling up the port is currently underway.

The project, awarded by the Planning Ministry on 23rd January 2023, is valued at MVR 82.6 million. It aims to enhance the port’s infrastructure and accessibility.

Key components of the project include:

  • Creation of a new harbour basin covering 63,711 cubic metres
  • 4,414 cubic metres of land reclamation
  • Construction of a 31-metre outer wall
  • 680-metre large stone revetment
  • 700-metre geobag revetment
  • 374-metre harbour stretch
  • Construction of a 160-metre-long, two-metre-wide concrete jetty
  • Building a 19-metre-long, three-metre-wide bridge
  • Paving an area of 1,869 square metres
  • Installation of harbour lighting

Once completed, the upgraded Maafushi Port is expected to improve transport and economic activities in the region, benefiting both locals and businesses.
