The Thalassaemia Centre is facing growing pressure as patients and their families staged a protest last night, demanding the resignation of the centre's owners due to its inability to provide essential services.

Videos of the protest have spread on social media, showing the frustration of thalassaemia patients and their families. One protester highlighted the dire situation, stating that the centre lacks essential medicines and has ongoing issues with blood supply.

One of the protesters noted that while it was difficult to get blood, damaged filters are forcing them to discard blood packets.

The demonstration reportedly began after a meeting with the centre’s management failed to resolve these concerns. Protesters alleged that the leadership was aware of the faulty blood filters but had not taken necessary action.

Another protester said that sometimes, blood collected for transfusions have to be thrown away due to filter issues.

The protesters condemned the authorities for their negligence, stating that the centre’s deteriorating conditions were a result of mismanagement. They called for urgent action to ensure proper care and services for thalassaemia patients.
