Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that more than half a million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.

According to the statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, 597,747 tourists have visited the Maldives by the 20th of this month.

The statistics show that an average of 6,000 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day.

China remains the top source market for tourists to the Maldives. Russia is in second place, while the United Kingdom is the third largest source market.

69 percent of tourists who visited the Maldives stayed in resorts. The next most popular accommodation type was guesthouses, accounting for 25 percent of tourists. Liveaboards received 2.4 percent of tourists, while hotels received only 2.6 percent of tourists.

Last year was the first time in the 52-year history of Maldives tourism that two million tourists visited within a year. The government's target for this year is to attract 2.3 million tourists.
