Mohamed Fazeen, Vice President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom), has resigned from his membership in the commission today.
At the time of Fazeen's resignation, the process of removing him from BroadCom membership had already been sent to the permanent committee of the Parliament.
Fazeen has made his resignation letter public in a post on X.
In the letter, Fazeen said he decided to resign from the position because he believes it is not possible at this time to fulfill the responsibilities of a commission member independently and without bias.
Fazeen has also posted a statement signed by lawyers denying the allegations against him.
The statement says that despite investigations by a commission committee, the Parliament's Independent Institutions Committee, and the police into the matter related to Fazeen, no evidence or proof other than the initial allegation has been found so far.
Fazeen is accused of sexually harassing a female employee of BroadCom. This case was submitted to the Parliament in January this year.
Fazeen, who was working as a presenter at Raajje TV, was approved by the People's Majlis to be appointed as a member of Broadcom on March 2, 2021.
Following the Majlis approval, he was appointed to the commission's membership on March 7 by then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Fazeen was appointed as the Vice President of BroadCom on January 19, 2023, following the resignation of Ahmed Gais, who was then the Vice President.
