High Court Chief Judge Hussain Shaheed has applied for the position of Supreme Court Justice.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) first opened applications for the position on Monday following the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood. When the application period ended, only former Deputy Prosecutor General Mariyam Nihayath had applied for the position.

Therefore, a second announcement was made on Wednesday night to find a judge. When the application period ended at 10:00 AM today, those who applied for the Supreme Court Justice position were Judge Shaheed, former Deputy Prosecutor General Mariyam Nihayath, and lawyer Rushdullah Ibrahim.

Shaheed holds a Master's degree in Judicial Science and Sharia Policy and a Bachelor's degree in Sharia and Law from the College of Islamic Studies. Shaheed took the oath as a judge on November 26, 2014. He was appointed as a High Court Judge on July 24, 2018. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court on October 26, 2023.
